Created by fashion designer Sophie English, So.English are a luxury, British beachwear brand, based by the sea in Brighton. The identity uses a graphic interpretation of a martlet bird, the emblem of Sussex. This migrational sea bird, is often depicted on the wing, seemingly a fitting symbol to represent this beachwear brand. The roundel design, a nod to Brighton rock reflects So English's fun and frivolous side.
Inspired by her personal collection of vintage towelling gathered over the course of many years, Sophie’s designs recreate the carefree 1970s, sparked by memories of childhood holidays spent messing about on beaches and boats. They echo the vibrant towelling beach dresses she remembers her mother wearing.
The e-commerce website showcases the So.English Collection:
So.Classic & So.Limited, including a mix of bespoke prints and authentic vintage fabrics.
Happy customers can leave their reviews on the So.Loved page.
Online orders are sent out by Martlet post, lovingly boxed and wrapped in bespoke paper. Compliment slips on postcards illustrate the vintage fabrics. As an added bonus a handful of specially made rock is added...sweet!
"Nicola has been great to work with. I engaged her at concept stage to help develop our brand identity and she quickly grasped the vision and essence of So English. Nicola understood the brief for branding, identity, website design and print, as well as delivering on time for the launch. Design and styling are essential for a clothing brand and Nicola's approach with colours and styling has been crucial in defining the imagery and character we were looking for”
